Sandstone Blocks

The demand for sandstone blocks is picking up and the export of natural and calibrated as well as polished and calibrated sandstone blocks have increased in geometric progression. Simple methods of quarrying are used to remove the over burden and to take out the sandstone blocks.

Area Of Excellence
Sandstone blocks are mainly found in Rajasthan. The districts of Karauli, Dholpur and Bharatpur on the east, Kota, Bundi, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh on the south, and Nagaur and Jodhpur on the west of Jaipur are the most popular ones. Other than these places, few districts of Madhya Pradesh are also known for their sandstone blocks.

Usage
For exterior veneering, sandstone blocks and hand-dressed pieces have found much of a market. These stone blocks are used for exterior cladding in a sizable quantity. Rough, weathered sandstone blocks and boulders (fieldstone) have been used for years as facing stone on homes and other buildings, and to build other structures such as fireplaces, walls and walkways.
